OWNER GUIDE / SAFETY & SPILL CONTROL

Selling a safety supply or spill-control business

Your business may combine repeat consumable orders, assembled kits, and customer-specific safety programs. A useful sale preparation plan explains those different sources of demand.

WHAT TO PREPARE

Make repeat demand visible.

Separate replenishment from event-driven orders

Identify orders that follow regular usage, scheduled site replenishment, and unusual incidents or projects. A large shipment can mean very different things in each case. Describe the purchasing pattern without treating every repeat customer as contracted revenue.

Document what goes into a kit

For assembled kits, create a bill of materials, supplier references, substitution rules, and assembly instructions. Record which products have shelf-life or storage requirements. Explain who reviews specifications and maintains the product information customers receive.

Explain the service around the product

If you provide on-site checks, stocking programs, training, or delivery, describe exactly what is included and who performs it. Keep written customer commitments together. Ask qualified advisers to review obligations and product claims as part of a potential transaction.

Your first-pass checklist

  • Sales split between replenishment, projects, and unusual events
  • Kit bills of materials and assembly instructions
  • Current supplier product documentation
  • Written stocking or service agreements, where they exist
  • Returns, complaints, and product-information update process

Are repeat purchases the same as recurring revenue?

A customer who reorders regularly is different from a customer with a written purchase commitment. Show both honestly. Record the pattern, the agreement if there is one, and what could cause demand to change.
